From that day onwards, Jin Shiya started treating her perceived rival, Jiang Shiyu, with increasing kindness. Not only did she drag her into intensive English lessons, but she also shared countless tips and advice. She made sure Jiang Shiyu reviewed the past works and news of the directors and screenwriters involved in their project. Jin Shiya even went as far as to encourage Liu Hong to assign two assistants to Jiang Shiyu, offering her the kind of treatment that a fresh debutant couldn’t possibly expect.
Noland, of course, was aware of everything Jin Shiya was doing, and it left him frustrated.
"Why are you being so nice to your rival? Do you think this will erase the fact that you're trying to steal her man?"
One day, Noland dialed Jin Shiya's number. He suppressed his anger and spoke in the same calm voice he always used.
"I thought about it, and I'm starting to wonder if sabotaging them is really a good idea. It almost feels a bit like you're trying to act like a green tea b*tch..."
Noland rubbed his forehead, silently answering himself: Don't worry, you won’t become a green tea btch. You’re coming with me abroad, and I won’t give you the chance to flaunt your presence in front of Bai Yongyan.*
But on the phone, Noland still tried to comfort Jin Shiya. "Didn't you hear from Jiang Shiyu herself a few days ago that someone is pursuing her, but she hasn't agreed to anything? She's still focusing on her career, right?"
"That’s true, but I’m worried that Jiang Shiyu might have said that on purpose. Maybe she thinks that, since I’m part of the General Manager's secretary office, it would seem suspicious if I start asking about her love life," Jin Shiya replied hesitantly.
Noland couldn't help but think that Jin Shiya still wasn’t as dumb as she looked. After all, she was still herself. Jin Shiya wasn't completely clueless.
Noland could bet that Jiang Shiyu’s response was likely because of the exact reason Jin Shiya had mentioned. A mere staff member from the General Manager's office suddenly being so attentive to her and even asking about her romantic life was probably seen as something suspicious. Jiang Shiyu likely assumed it was some sort of investigation from above, and in that case, admitting her relationship with Bai Yongyan could jeopardize the whole project.
Of course, Noland recalled that in his past life, Jin Shiya, too, had been very insecure about the two not being publicly open about their relationship. Even when she found out about Jiang Shiyu’s connection with Bai Yongyan, all she got was the "we’re just friends, not dating yet" response. This made her go to great lengths to try and gain attention in front of Bai Yongyan, even targeting Jiang Shiyu.
At that time, Jin Shiya must have looked like a complete clown.
Noland snapped out of his daze, refocusing on the phone conversation. "If she said that, then stop doubting it. Even if they’re not in a relationship, you’re still rivals. Don’t let your brain get cloudy and start treating your rival with kindness."
Jin Shiya, on the other hand, softly complained that Jiang Shiyu was quite likable. In response to Noland’s slightly questioning "Hmm?", she finally relented, "Alright, I understand. I’ll keep my distance from Jiang Shiyu. Master!"
After a brief exchange, Jin Shiya hung up. Noland tossed the phone aside and began finalizing the locations for the music video shoot with Sherman. It was already autumn, and even though time was tight, the shoot would take at least two months. Sherman recommended two beaches that would be at their best during the peak season. Noland chose Ma Ruoma, not only because the timing was perfect but also because it was a place Jin Shiya had never been to.
