In the end, Jin Shiya climbed onto Noland’s back. His back was broad, strong, and most importantly, incredibly warm. Although she had never been carried by her father like this, in that moment, she felt as though she could understand that kind of experience.
However, Noland’s method of carrying her was very gentlemanly. His hands went under her knees and around her legs, and apart from her thighs and arms, there was no direct contact. This way of carrying was the least likely to make a woman uncomfortable.
But carrying someone like this was a huge physical effort for a man. Noland carried her steadily, showing signs of regular exercise. Jin Shiya’s hands rested loosely around his neck, and Noland moved with careful steps, his pace deliberate. Wendy, walking beside them, was panting heavily, wagging its tail as it followed along.
The setting sun cast a warm, orange glow over everything, its last rays of light struggling not to fade. The glow landed on Jin Shiya and Noland, creating a long shadow in front of them. Jin Shiya rested her head on Noland’s back, and her relaxed posture made her drowsy. Little by little, her head drifted onto Noland’s shoulder, and eventually, she couldn’t fight the fatigue and fell asleep.
Before completely dozing off, she saw the light shining on Noland’s profile. It was so beautiful that she couldn’t help but think about how stunning it looked.
In a half-conscious state, she thought she might have said something, but she couldn’t remember exactly. The only one who did was Noland, who remembered her soft, drowsy voice murmuring, "You’re really good-looking."
He agreed with her.
Jin Shiya woke up to the sound of her phone ringing, groggily sitting up. She saw that her assistant had called her more than twenty times. The moment she answered the phone, her assistant’s voice, filled with panic, startled her.
The assistant, who was older than her by a year and a senior intern, was practically crying on the other end. “Jin Jie, where are you? You’re not kidnapped, are you? I heard that MX has a lot of drug dealers and criminals. Are you okay?”
Jin Shiya couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time. “What are you talking about? How could I possibly be kidnapped? If someone were to kidnap anyone, it’d be better to go after Noland, not me. He’s clearly worth more.”
But as soon as she said that, the assistant started crying harder. "Then Jin Jie, you need to come back! Or just tell me where you are, and I’ll come get you. The director group has been blocking my door since early morning, asking why RM’s head didn’t show up at the meeting last night. I couldn’t reach you either!”
Hearing this, Jin Shiya’s heart sank. She quickly said, “Don’t worry, I’ll handle it. Just wait for me outside the hotel in half an hour.”
Although Jin Shiya had been a bit disoriented on the drive over yesterday, it should only take her about fifteen minutes to get back. She quickly got up, brushed her hair, and put on a simple makeup look. Grabbing her briefcase, she hurriedly prepared to leave.
As she descended the stairs, she ran into Olivia.
“Miss Jin, you’re in a hurry. Is something wrong?”
Jin Shiya replied as she gathered her things, “Please arrange a car for me. I need to go back to the hotel we were at before.”
